During my 4 year active duty tour I had been to 7 different countries, to include a tour in the beginning stages of Iraqi Freedom. During my 4 years in the Marines I had gained the rank of sergeant and at one time supervised a staff of 40 personnel. After I got out of the service I had joined the United States Postal Service where I have worked for the past 2 years. Just recently I have taken a job opportunity under a civilian government contractor to head back to Iraq and aid in the rebuilding efforts. Hopefully I live once again to tell the story. Just kidding!!!! Wish me luck.

My heart still beats for flat lunchroom cheeseburgers and over salted french fries, I miss Mr. Dick and how much his voice resembles that of Kermit the Frog. And most of all walking through the halls and looking into the faces of those around me and wondering what is going to happen to all of us? That thought overwhelmed me so much that I found it difficult to really concentrate on school. I understand that many enlisted and were shipped off to fight in the counterfeit war. I understand that many let their guards down for a second too long and were captured by drugs, booze, brick shoe boyfriends/girlfriends, and dead end jobs. And I understand that many kept on climbing and are meeting their goals and building new ones everyday. You are my people, we are the future, remember the past but goddamnit live in the now. Hello to everyone ! ! A couple of things has changed since graduation. I started working at Umass after school I was there for five years and while I was there I was going to night classes but then left there and got a new job. Now Im working for 3M Touch Systems. I have a beautiful daughter and her name is Karlybeth Marie Ortiz she is 4 years old. She is my joy and my everything ! ! I'm still in Lowell, I bought a house two years ago so im haging there ! ! After graduation I kept in touch with a few people but mostly now I chilled with my daughters godmother/my bestfriend. She's been there for me for everything so much luv to you Val. Well thats all I have to say for now and also another thing has changed lol IM not a trouble maker no more and I try to keep my self out of trouble ! LOL. After graduation I tried the whole college thing and just couldn't adapt to it, so I decided to take a "leave of absence" (ya that was what about 2 years ago, I could have been half way there by now, oh well). So I decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a cop and have been working for UMass Lowell PD for the past 2 1/2 years. I started in security and now am dispatching, fun fun yea right but its a start. Hopefully I will be attending the police academy in Jan we'll see how that goes, long process to becoming a cop let me tell ya. I currently live with my girlfriend Kaitlin and we are expecting a baby March 17, 2003, and plan on getting married. I am majoring in Fashion Design, and having so much fun doing it. Don't get me wrong, it's hard work. Most of my classes are three hours long, sometimes four classes in a row. Yes, 12 hour days. I have created several original designs that have been selected by a panel of judges to appear in Mount Ida's annual fashion shows that were held at The Park Plaza Hotel in 2000, and at The Colonnade Hotel in 2001. I am doing well in school, trying to maintain my 3.94 GPA. I miss high school very much, but look forward to (hopefully) becoming successful in the field of Fashion Design. I hope all of you are well, and are chasing your dreams no matter how far away they seem to appear. Update March 3, 2003.I'm finishing up my junior year at Mount Ida College, and work part time at Lane Bryant at the Pheasant Lane Mall to pay for my car (finally got rid of my junk box VW!!) I graduate from Columbia College Chicago in the spring of 2007 with a BFA in advertising and art direction. I currently work as a creative and a designer for Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants, making websites, menus, advertisements, and other print media.
