The Five "A's" of Community Service Learning

• Authentic Learning: The project addresses a real-world issue and is connected to the community.

• Active exploration: The project engages you in inquiry and hands-on application of learning.

• Adult connection: The project links you to community mentors and experts.

• Applied Learning: You can transfer what you have learned in your technical and academic areas to the service project and vice versa.

• Advocacy: The project promotes your voice and leads to change.

Volunteering to help in the community is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. By contributing time and services, you generate a feeling of good will. It lets your community know that you care and are willing to help.
Essential Questions:
• How can you make meaningful contributions to your community?
• What can you learn from these contributions?
Learning Objectives:
• Meet with members of the community to discuss needs
• Write a proposal justifying involvement in the project
• Develop a resume
