How to Apply for a
Community Service Project
Write a professional letter telling your supervising teacher that
you are interested in working on the community service learning
project. In this letter, clearly state what you can bring to the
group that will ensure the projects successful outcome. You can
do this easily by identifying the many competencies that you have
attained as a student here at Greater Lowell. (See Your Instructor
for Your Competency Attainment List)
Prepare
a Resume
Your supervising instructor may want you to submit a completed
resume. Every resume has a similar outline that requires specific
information. A resume will always have your name, address, telephone
number and e-mail address in order for your supervisor to contact
you. In addition, the resume will outline your objectives, educational
history, employment history, volunteer projects, activities and
hobbies.
Prepare for the Interview
Your supervising instructor may want to interview you to ensure
that you understand your role and responsibilities while working
on the community service learning project. Your supervising instructor
may ask a wide range of questions referencing your educational
experience, employment experience, your interpersonal skills,
your ability to work with a team, and most importantly your ability
to take a project to its end. Prior to meeting with your supervising
instructor it is a good idea to make sure that you understand
thoroughly the goals of the community service project. If you
have any questions regarding your role in this project this is
the time for you to ask. There should be no misunderstanding as
what your role is in this community service learning project.
