THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IS ALIGNED WITH THE MATCHING MASSACHUSETTS VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL EDUCATOR FRAMEWORKS.  SOME QUESTIONS REQUIRE A SYNTHESIS OF KNOWLEDGE BASED ON THIS EXPERIENCE AND MAY NOT BE FOUND IN ANY BOOK. HOWEVER, CANDIDATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO STUDY FOR THEIR EXAMS BY REVIEWING CURRENT TEXTBOOKS AND REFERENCE MATERIAL WHICH CAN USUALLY BE FOUND IN THE LIBRARIES OF MOST VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOLS AND SCHOOLS WHICH OFFER CHAPTER 74 PROGRAMS.

The written exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions.  Each question consists of one incomplete sentence or a questions followed by four choices.  Listed below are several sample items:

 

When is a fire watch needed?

 

            a.         When welding and cutting around combustible materials.

31% Flange with Round Cylinder Ring -

Candidate will use proper safety layout techniques and power stationary equipment, incorporate oxygen-actylene to cut, fabricate and weld product according to OSHA Specifications and Industry Standards.

 

31% Fabricate and Weld Aluminum Cover -

Candidate, using proper layout technique and power pm manual stationary equipment, will fabricate and weld aluminum box cover g.t.a.w. to specifications and OSHA Specifications and Industry Standards.

 

39 % Fabricate and Weld a ¼” H.R.S. Steel Box with Handles -

Candidate using proper layout technique and power stationary equipment, will fabricate and weld steel box to specifications and OSHA Specifications and Industry Standards.
