THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IS ALIGNED WITH THE MATCHING MASSACHUSETTS VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL EDUCATOR FRAMEWORKS.  SOME QUESTIONS REQUIRE A SYNTHESIS OF KNOWLEDGE BASED ON VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL WORK EXPERIENCE AND MAY NOT BE FOUND IN ANY BOOK.  HOWEVER, CANDIDATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO STUDY FOR THEIR EXAMS BY REVIEWING CURRENT TEXTBOOKS AND REFERENCE MATERIAL WHICH CAN USUALLY BE FOUND IN THE LIBRARIES OF MOST VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOLS AND SCHOOLS WHICH OFFER CHAPTER 74 PROGRAMS.

 63 % - SAFE HANDLING AND RESTRAINT OF LARGE AND SMALL ANIMALS

-       Handling, Restraining and Sexing of a Small Animal

-       Sheep Restraining and Hoof Trimming

-       Halter, Lead, Crosstie, and Groom Horse

-       Catch, Halter and Secure a Livestock  Animal

-       Transfer Dog from Kennel and Prepare for Grooming

 

  9 % -  IDENTIFY HEALTHY AND UNHEALTHY ANIMALS

-       Operate a Binocular Microscope

-       Animal Parasite Identification

 

 13% -  DEMONSTRATE HEALTHY AND SAFETY PRACTICES

UNIFORM:

 

Candidates will be required to wear appropriate clothing including:

 

-       Work boots- no sneakers

-       Long pants

-       No loose clothing; long hair pulled back

-       Clothing appropriate for outdoor work and weather conditions

-       ANSI approved Safety glasses; vinyl or latex gloves

The Performance Examination is aligned with the matching Massachusetts Vocational Technical Educator Frameworks.  Most exam tasks require a synthesis of knowledge based on vocational technical work experience.  As a result we highly recommend that Performance Exam Candidates possess the required years of related work experience as well as the appropriate industry recognized credentials as outlined as requirements for preliminary vocational technical educator licensure.  Candidates are also encouraged to prepare for their exams by reviewing current textbooks and reference material which can usually be found in the libraries of most Vocational Technical Schools and Schools which offer Chapter 74 Programs.
