Committee
Responsibilities

The Greater Lowell Advisory Committee is divided into two separate committees: the Program Advisory Committee and the General Advisory Committee. Each one has different roles, however both are very important.

The Program Advisory Committee is responsible for advising, assisting and supporting school personnel in order to improve planning, operation and evaluation in its program area. Such advice shall be based on adequate and timely information as to workforce and job development demands or job market trends, technological developments, training alternatives and other factors affecting the quality of the program.

The General Advisory Committee is responsible for advising the school committee/board of trustees, based on adequate and timely information, as to the planning, operation, and evaluation of vocational technical instruction provided by programs under its control.

Program advisory committees and general advisory committees must seek to ensure non-discrimination and equity in career/vocational technical education programs.

Every person shall have a right to attend the public schools of the town where he actually resides, subject to the following section. No school committee is required to enroll a person who does not actually reside in the town unless said enrollment is authorized by law or by the school committee. Any person who violates or assists in the violation of this provision may be required to remit full restitution to the town of the improperly attended public schools. No person shall be excluded from or discriminated against in admission to a public school of any town, or in obtaining the advantages, privileges and courses of study of such public school on account of race, color, sex, religion, national origin or sexual orientation.
