Essential Question: What difference, can one individual make on the environment?
Culminating Task: The E.P.A. wants you to create a brochure on measures you can take to improve the environment. Each student will choose one environmental problem from their research paper, create a brochure and share it in a small group discussion
Standards:
Owning the Questions through Science and Technology, Strand 4-Science Technology and Human Affairs,
Argue and defend the position that while technology can be used to solve societal problems, technology can also have a negative impact on people and the environment.
English Language Arts, Standard 19, Write compositions with a clear focus, using logically related ideas and adequate details to develop it. Standard 24. Use open-ended research questions, different sources of information, and appropriate research methods to gather information for your research project. Standard 3, oral presentation.
Performance Objectives: You will explain each of the 5 major environmental problems, their cause, and their environmental impact.
Given information on each environmental problem, you will explain how you can have a direct impact on each problem.
Your report should include the following:
1. A cover ( name of your report, your name and period , and a picture) worth 10 points
2. A picture , chart, or graph , for each problem (worth 5 points)
3. One page of typed information on each of the following topics (worth 16 points for each topic)
Acid rain - Rainforest depletion - Hazardous waste disposal
Global
warming - Ozone depletion
4. Your report should answer the following for each problem: (in this order)

| C. The environmental impact (the affect it has on the environment). | |
| D. What you as an individual can do to help reduce/solve the problem. |
5. Bibliography ( a list of the books, magazines, websites, etc. where you
got the information author,
book title, date published, publisher (worth 5 points)
6. You will be graded on neatness and spelling as well as the content of your report.
