Activity #4:

Find the value of a trigonometric function on a scientific calculator.

Not all calculators operate the same way.

To find the sin, cos, or tangent of an angle on the computer scientific calculator first make sure the calculator is in the degree mode. Press the angle value first and then the function key.

Example 2: Find sin 150.

 

Click  the following sequence of keys on your calculator.

1     5     sin

                    The answer on your calculator should be 0.2588190451025 which should be

                    rounded off to 4 decimal places, 0.2588.

Example 3: Find the cos 25015'

Click the following sequence of keys on your calculator.

2 5 . 1 5 inv    dms cos

(the inv dms keys  changes degrees and minutes to degrees in decimal form)

The answer should be 0.9045.

Use your calculator to find the values for each of the following angles.

1.) sin 300                           2.) cos 160                                      3.) tan 250

4.) sin 730                          5.) tan 800                                       6.) cos 100 20'

7.) sin 660 30'                   8.) cos 790 10'                                 9.) tan 50 50'

10.) cos 890 10'              11.) sin890 10'                                  12.) tan 00 50'

13.) cos 00 10'
