• Practical Nursing


    Nursing Graduates

    The Practical Nursing Program is a 40-week, full-time Post-Secondary course with 1,098 hours of classroom and 514 hours of clinical instruction. Clinical experience is designed to assist students in the application of classroom theory within various healthcare facilities in the community. After completing the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council of Licensing Examination for Practical Nursing. To accommodate diverse schedules, both a daytime and an evening division are offered. Every August, 40 students are admitted to each division for a total enrollment of 80 students. The application and testing process begins in December for the following August class.

    Greater Lowell Technical Practical Nurse Program is fully approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.

    Graduating from the Greater Lowell Technical School PN Program will qualify a student to work in Mass upon successful attainment of licensure.  Individuals intending to practice outside of Massachusetts can refer to the NCSBN web site (NCSBN.org/14731.htm)  and should discuss with the Director of the PN Program about the applicant's ability to license in a state other than Massachusetts.

    Greater Lowell Technical School Adult Post-Secondary Programs commit to providing students with a dynamic academic and technical education to prepare them with the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to be successful in their chosen profession. We prepare and encourage students to be lifelong learners while realizing and pursuing their individual potential for personal and professional success.


    DAY DIVISION

    1. Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
    2. 40 students are admitted every August.
    3. Class of 2024 begins on Wednesday, August 23, 2023
    4. June 20, 2024, projected completion date.

    EVENING DIVISION

    1. Monday - Friday from 4:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
    2. 40 students are admitted every August.
    3. Class of 2024 begins on Wednesday, August 23, 2023
    4. June 20, 2024, projected completion date.

    TUITION:

    In-District $7,500 - Lowell, Dracut, Tyngsboro, and Dunstable residents.

    Out-of-District residents $11,579

    Out-of-State residents $12,579

    Pell Grants and Direct Loans are available to qualified students.

    CAREER OUTLOOK

    Our graduates perform above the national average. The Licensed Practical Nurse is in demand in a variety of area facilities and settings. According to the Occupational Employment and Wages May 2022, www.bls.gov/oes/, the Massachusetts annual mean wage is $54,620 with an hourly rate of $26.26. Greater Lowell has an articulation agreement with Middlesex Community College which helps facilitate the process of advancing into their registered nurse program.

    EDUCATIONAL MOBILITY

    Consistent with the program's philosophy, Greater Lowell Technical School Practical Nurse Program encourages recognition of previous learning and continuation of this process after graduation. Practical Nurse Education provides a foundation upon which further education can be built for the purpose of personal and professional growth and development. This growth can be fostered through our articulation agreement with Middlesex Community College or by attending other higher educational institutions.
