Aviren Chitpaseuth, who entered the season with 3,370 career rushing yards, has been a special player for the Greater Lowell Tech football program.
Now the senior is approaching a different stratosphere and is a major reason the Gryphons are off to a blazing 4-0 start.
Through four games, he has 760 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in wins over Medford (20-0), Watertown (27-9), North Middlesex (35-28) and KIPP Academy (37-28). In three of the four games, he’s had at least 191 rushing yards, with a 218-yard game in week one and a 246-yard gem in week three.
“Aviren is running with an edge,” said head coach Shane Abrams. “Aviren is a hard guy to tackle, he has quickness, great balance, strength and he understands the game of football. He trained very hard this offseason to prepare his body and mind.”
His offensive line has been a huge reason for the success.
“Aviren is grateful to be running behind Eric Morrison, Miguel Maldonado, Rafelis Pierre Reyes and Mauser Sencion,” said Abrams. “They are senior veteran varsity linemen that were savages in the weight room this offseason.”
Quarterback MJ Camara has also been a force. He finished 11-for-14 for 172 yards against Watertown, and followed that up with a pair of TD passes against North Middlesex and KIPP.
“He has been able to complete passes to very athletic receivers, Lennoxx Ramos, Kyle Jarek, Damian Jackman and Jaime Surillo, especially when defenses focus on Aviren’s running ability,” said the coach.
On Friday (6:30 p.m.), Greater Lowell will look to start 5-0 with a long trip to Bristol-Plymouth (2-1), which defeated South Shore Tech and Upper Cape Tech after losing to Greater New Bedford Tech in the opener.
“We are pleased with our start. The most important play is the next one, the most important game is the next one,” said Abrams.
