TYNGSBORO — The following have been selected Students of the Month for September and October 2024. Each of these students has displayed the characteristics of Greater Lowell Technical High School’s core values, R.E.A.C.H., by showing Respect, Effort, Accountability, Commitment, and Honesty in their classes and among their peers. These students also reflect Greater Lowell’s mission to ensure students’ readiness for career, college, and citizenship in the 21st century.
September 2024
George Granda Robles, a senior from Lowell, entered Greater Lowell Tech from the Lowell Community Charter School. George is majoring in Computer Aided Drafting and Design and maintains an overall GPA of 4.24. George is pursuing a rigorous academic course load which includes Honors English, AP Environmental Science, Early College Precalculus, and multiple classes in Dual Enrollment and Early College Engineering. George is a member of the Commonwealth Collegiate Academy in partnership with UMass Lowell, National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society, and participates in SkillsUSA. He has received awards for student leadership, outstanding achievement in his technical area, honor roll and high honor roll. George is also involved in the athletic program and plays on the varsity boys volleyball team, winning the CAC All-Star Award this season. He has served as captain of the team and won the Coach’s Award. Over the summer, George worked with Suffolk Construction as a construction management intern on the Lowell High School expansion project and he is pursuing a cooperative education job for term 2. Outside of school, George plays club volleyball for Meraki in Bedford, N.H. With this team, he has qualified for the AAU Boys Volleyball Nationals for both 2024 and 2025. George embodies the core values of Effort and Commitment. He is described by his technical instructor as an exemplary leader who often takes the time to help others despite his heavy course load. Following graduation, George plans to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology, earn a master’s degree in architecture, and leave his mark on this world.
Isabella Stack, a senior from Lowell, entered Greater Lowell from the Wang Middle School. Isabella is majoring in Electrical and is ranked eighth in her class with an overall GPA of 4.46. She is pursuing a challenging academic course load including Dual Enrollment English Composition, AP Statistics, AP Physics, and AP Environmental Science. In addition, Isabella has completed coursework in Spanish through the foreign language program. Isabella is a member of the National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society, the Debate Club Pilot Program, and SkillsUSA. She has earned awards for honor roll, high honor roll, and technical performance in SkillsUSA. In addition, Isabella is an active student leader and serves as an ambassador for schoolwide events. Isabella is a three-season athlete who participates on the cross country, swim and dive, and track and field teams. This year she served as captain of the cross country team. She’s received awards for Cross Country Varsity Girl of the Year and Track and Field Most Improved Distance Runner. Outside of school, Isabella works at Clark’s Trading Post seasonally, and the Pemi Public House. Isabella was nominated as a student who embodies the core values of Effort, Accountability, and Commitment. She is described by her instructor as a student who holds herself and others in high regard and expects everyone to do their best. Her determination and success is characterized by her ability to think outside of the box. Following graduation, Isabella plans to attend a high-ranking four-year school and major in both biology and psychology for a combined forensic science degree.
Ana Sakakibara de Oliviera, a junior from Lowell, entered Greater Lowell when she moved to the area from Brazil. Ana is majoring in Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing and follows a College Preparatory Schedule which includes CP English, CP Chemistry, and CP Algebra 2. Ana has received awards for honor roll, outstanding achievement in academic and technical courses, and Science Fair outstanding achievement. Ana participates in the ELL Book Club. Outside of school, Ana is active in her church and dedicates time to feeding the homeless. Ana was nominated by multiple instructors as a student who demonstrates the core values of Respect, Honesty, and Commitment. She is described as a student who is genuinely interested and excited to learn and her writing, creativity, and collaborative work ethic have made the classroom a better place. Following graduation, Ana plans to continue her education and pursue a career as a pediatrician.
Hafsoh Alimi, a sophomore from Lowell, and entered Greater Lowell from the Rogers STEM Academy. Hafsoh is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and maintains a 4.3 GPA. She pursues an honors-level academic schedule which includes Honors English, Honors Geometry, Honors Chemistry, and Honors U.S. History 2. Hafsoh has received awards for honor roll, high honor roll, SkillsUSA, and the UMass Lowell Math Competition. She is an active member and competitor in SkillsUSA and volunteers with the SkillsUSA Freshman Program. Hafsoh participates in community service activities such as the Back to School Night and Open House. She is also a member of the varsity tennis team. Hafsoh was nominated as a student who demonstrates the core values of Respect, Accountability, and Commitment. She is described by her instructor as a student who continually works to improve and carries herself with poise, grace, maturity, and positivity. Following graduation, Hafsoh plans to continue her education.
October 2024
Maria Cespedes Sanclemente, a senior from Lowell, entered Greater Lowell from the Robinson Middle School. Maria is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and is ranked 12th in her class with an overall GPA of 4.44. She is pursuing a challenging academic course load including AP English Literature/Composition, AP Calculus AB, and AP Biology. In addition, Maria has completed coursework in French through the foreign language program. Maria is a member of the National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society, the NABT BioClub, and the Environmental Club. She has earned awards for honor roll, high honor roll, and outstanding achievement in Anatomy and Physiology, Algebra, English, and Medical Assisting. In addition, Maria has received the DESE MA Student Achievement Award, National Hispanic Recognition Program award, National First-Generation Recognition Program award, and the UMass Lowell Mathematics Challenge award. She is an active student leader and serves as an ambassador for schoolwide events as well as a leader in the Summer Program. Outside of school, Maria participates in the Harvard Medical School MEDScience Lab Program and Moonshot Foundations Program. Maria was nominated as a student who embodies the core values of Respect, Honesty, and Commitment. She is described by her technical instructor as a student who consistently exceeds shop standards, treats classmates and teachers with kindness, actively listens during discussions, and appreciates diverse perspectives. Following graduation, Maria plans to pursue a degree in biological sciences (or a related field) in a four-year school and obtain a Ph.D. Her ultimate goal is to achieve a position in a laboratory or research facility to improve human health and contribute toward the development of future medicine.
Mishell Quindi Punin, a junior from Lowell, entered Greater Lowell from the Robinson Middle School. Mishell is majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism, and pursues a college preparatory schedule which includes coursework in CP English, CP Algebra 2, and CP U.S. History. Mishell has received awards for honor roll. She is trilingual and speaks Spanish and Kichwa in addition to learning English. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with the children in her family. Mishell was nominated as a student who demonstrates the core values of Effort and Accountability. She is described by her instructor as a goal-oriented student who strives to do her best each and every day. Following graduation, Mishell plans to continue her education, pursue a degree in business administration, and open her own hotel or restaurant.
Daniel McMenamy, a sophomore from Tyngsboro, entered Greater Lowell from Tyngsboro Middle School. Daniel is majoring in Metal Fabrication and Joining Technologies and maintains a 4.13 GPA. He pursues an honors-level academic schedule which includes Honors English, Honors Geometry, Honors Chemistry, and Honors U.S. History 2. Daniel is a member of the Model UN Team, and serves as a student ambassador assisting with schoolwide events, including eighth-grade tours. He is a member of the Greater Lowell varsity tennis team, varsity golf team, and is the basketball team manager. He has received awards for honor roll and high honor roll, and was named a “top 100” in the state in the 2022 Letters About Literature Contest. Outside of school, Daniel is a member of Scouts BSA and is currently the senior patrol leader for his troop. He has completed over 30 hours of service work including 10 conservation hours. Daniel was nominated as a student who demonstrates the core values of Respect, Effort, and Commitment. He is described by his technical instructor as a hard worker and shop leader who has the utmost respect for his trade. He is a reliable and responsible student who can always be counted on to get the job done. Following graduation, Daniel plans to pursue a career in metal fabrication and hopes to secure an apprenticeship with the Portsmouth Naval Base.
Matteo dos Santos, a freshman from Dracut, entered Greater Lowell from the Richardson Middle School. Matteo has had a strong first term at Greater Lowell, achieving honor roll grades in all academic classes. He is a member of the Anime Club and the Greater Lowell cross country team. Matteo is in the process of completing pre-coursework in all 23 technical areas, including Information Technology Services, HVAC-R, and Plumbing. Once he has completed all technical exploratory courses, he will be choosing his major. Matteo was nominated as a student who embraces the core values of Effort, Commitment, and Honesty. He is described as a dedicated student who is always working to succeed and improve. He is kind, polite, respectful and always clarifies information when he is unsure. Following graduation, Matteo hopes to continue his education and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
