The Greater Lowell Tech girls swim team captured the State Vocational championship over the weekend, capping off a strong showing both as a team and in individual events.

The Gryphons’ A relay team turned in an impressive performance, breaking multiple meet and state vocational records. In the 200-yard medley relay, freshman Makayden Nadeau (backstroke), sophomore Erin Finn (butterfly), freshman Avarie Nadeau (breaststroke) and sophomore Madelyn Rodgers (freestyle) set a new meet record with a time of 2:02.42.

Nadeau followed that up by breaking the vocational meet record in the 200 individual medley by nearly six seconds, finishing in 2:24.47. She also set a new meet record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.27. With these performances, Nadeau qualified for both the North Sectional Meet and the All-State Meet in both events.

Finn also had a strong showing, setting a new vocational meet record in the 100 butterfly and finishing second overall with a time of 1:08.25, while Rodgers took first place in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 6:09.01.

Freshman Avarie Nadeau broke the vocational meet record in the 100 breaststroke by more than four seconds with a time of 1:12.05 and qualified for both the Sectional Meet and the All-State Meet in the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and 500 freestyle.

One of the biggest moments of the meet came in the 400 freestyle relay, where Makayden Nadeau, Finn, Avarie Nadeau and Rodgers shattered the state vocational record by 36 seconds with a time of 3:59.98.

The relay team will compete at the North Sectional meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay. At the All-State Meet, the team will race in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Greater Lowell won with a score of 301.
