Greater Lowell Technical High School (GLTech) partners with UMass Lowell (UMass) through the UMass Early College program to provide students with the opportunity to take college-level courses during the regular high school day at no cost. These courses are taught by UMass faculty in collaboration with GLTech teachers, ensuring students receive expert instruction while remaining supported in their high school environment. Early College courses fulfill both high school and college requirements, allowing students to earn up to 30 transferable college credits, reducing the time and cost of a four-year degree by up to 25%. Courses are offered in flexible formats, including in-person and hybrid learning, making them accessible and convenient while exposing students to the expectations and responsibilities of college-level work.

GLTech offers aligned Early College pathways in Engineering, Education, and Marketing/Business, connecting college coursework directly to students’ technical programs and career goals. Through these pathways, students gain a head start on college academics, build independence, and develop skills essential for success in higher education and the workforce. They also have opportunities to participate in UMass campus events, optional summer programs, and peer cohort experiences that enrich their learning and introduce them to campus life. Beyond academic credit, the program helps students explore career pathways, gain confidence, and expand their course options beyond what is traditionally available in high school.

For a complete list of available Early College courses, pathway details, and guidance on how courses align with college and career goals, students and families should consult the GLTech Program of Studies and the UMass Early College website. With the UMass Early College program, GLTech students can challenge themselves academically, gain a meaningful college experience, and make significant progress toward their future educational and career aspirations.
