Mandated Screening Programs
School Health Services
The school nurses are available 7am-3pm. They serve as a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns and to serve as a health resource for you and your child. The school nurses complete mandated state screenings, provide care for accidents, illnesses, and other medical situations, and assist in promoting good health and maintaining a healthy, safe environment for staff and students.
Mandated Screening Programs
In accordance with Massachusetts Law 105 CMR 200.00 and M.G.L. c. 71 s. 57, the school nurses will be conducting mandated screening throughout the school year. All information will be kept confidential. If you do not want your child to participate, please notify the nurse in writing.
Vision and Hearing: all 10th grade students will be screened. Parents/guardians will be notified of any problems that necessitate medical follow up.
Postural Screening: all 9th grade students will be screening for scoliosis. Screening will take place during physical education class. Parents/guardians will notified of any problems that necessitate medical follow up
Heights, Weights/Body Mass Index (BMI): all 10th grade students will be screened
Medication Policy
- A physician’s order is required for ALL prescription medications.
- Parent/guardian consent must be completed before any medication can be given at school.
- Medications must be delivered to the school nurse by the parent or guardian. All medication is required to be in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container with the current order date. If a student is found carrying medication for delivery it will not be accepted and the parent/guardian/designee will be called to come immediately to school to follow the proper guidelines.
- Students must have a current picture on file
Self Administration of medication
- Students must have a completed physician order and written parent consent indicating the student may self administer medications.
- In accordance with 105 CMR 210.006, the school nurse will evaluate the student’s health status and abilities and deem self administration as safe and appropriate. As necessary, the school nurse shall observe initial self administration of the prescription medication.
Medication Pick Up
Parent/guardian may retrieve medications from the nurse at any time. All unused, discontinued, or outdated medicated must be picked up by the parent/guardian at the end of the school year or it will be discarded.
