Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The Department of Mental Health offers a Behavioral Health Help Line that people can call or text at  the Behavioral Health Help Line number of 833-773-2445. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in more than 200 languages. The help line can help individuals and families navigate the behavioral health system and access treatment, including mobile crisis services. District and school leaders are asked to please share this resource with staff, families, and students, where helpful.

At Greater Lowell Technical High School, our school counseling program is dedicated to supporting the personal, academic, and professional growth of our diverse student body. We deliver a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program based on the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) National Model, the Massachusetts School Counselor Association (MASCA) Model and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s MyCAP College, Career and Civil Readiness plan. Our unique vocational and technical focus allows us to address the individual needs of each student, fostering an environment where they can achieve their goals and succeed beyond graduation.

Our Mission

The unique vocational technical school counseling program at Greater Lowell Technical High School addresses and supports our diverse student populations' personal and professional goals. School counselors foster relationships and advocate for students by collaborating with families, the school community, and stakeholders to ensure successful post secondary outcomes. Our approachable, reliable, and knowledgeable counselors ensure equity and access for all students through our comprehensive data informed school counseling program.

Supporting Student Success with MyCAP

We are proud to partner with MyCap, a comprehensive college, career and civic readiness planning platform designed to empower students in making informed decisions about their futures. Through MyCAP, students have access to personalized resources, goal-setting tools, and guidance to help them navigate post-secondary options and develop a clear pathway toward their goals.

Department Information

The School Counseling Department consists of one director, four adjustment counselors, and nine school counselors. Together, they deliver a comprehensive, developmentally focused program that includes:

  • Academic, career, and post-secondary planning
  • Technical program guidance
  • Armed services information and planning
  • Assistance with scheduling conflicts
  • Social-emotional support
  • Crisis intervention and resources
  • Individual and group counseling

Students are encouraged to schedule meetings with their counselor. Parents/Guardians are welcome and encouraged to contact their student’s counselor via email or phone.

Work Permits / Licenses

Work Permits:

All minors between the ages of 14 and 17 years old are required to have a work permit for employment.  In order to obtain a work permit, students must submit proof of age along with a completed Employment Permit Application.  Students should request a work permit from Brian Jones in the Cooperative Education Department. Examples of proof of age include a birth certificate, baptismal record, immigration record, or passport.

Ready to get your License?:

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has an online portal to provide easy access to resources for first-time drivers and parents and guardians of Junior Operators. The portal includes the steps to getting a driver’s license, parent/guardian information, safe driving tips, help studying for learner’s permits and road tests, and links to the learner’s permit application process.
