Membership Information

NHS/NTHS is a merit-based service organization which students are selected to join. Students must express interest by August 1st of each year,  prior to starting their Junior and/or Senior year at Greater Lowell Tech.  An email will be sent to students by June 15th of each year to notify them that the membership interest form is available.  Students who express interest and meet the minimum criteria outlined below will then be asked to complete an application.  Only students who fully complete the application will be considered for membership. The application will be scored by the faculty council to assess the candidate’s professionalism, school and community involvement, service record. In addition the council will be reviewing applications for the qualities valued in NTHS/NHS members: character, scholarship, leadership, service, honesty and responsibility.  

Since this is a service organization, all members are expected to have a record of community service, and continue to participate in community service. 

Membership Criteria

To join, students must:
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.8 or higher.
  • Have fewer than 8 absences during the previous academic year.
  • Have NO Main Office referrals related to disciplinary action
To maintain membership, students must:
  • Have a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
  • Have fewer than 8 absences during each year of membership.
  • NO discipline referrals.
  • Attend every other large group meeting.
  • Provide 10 hours of community service per quarter of membership.
    • Service includes two school-based events during each school year (such as Back-to-School Night, Open House, etc.

You are Invited!

As a member of the 11th and 12th grade incoming classes at Greater Lowell, you are cordially invited to seek membership within both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society.  These are both merit-based community service groups. Please see the NTHS/NHS Summer Invitation Letter for more information.

The criteria for membership are as follows:

  • A minimum weighted GPA requirement of 3.8.

  • A superior attendance record of no more than 12 unexcused absences during the prior school year.

  • A superior discipline record, free of conduct referrals/infractions, detentions, and suspensions.

We also strongly recommend that you have already participated in at least 10 hours of community service during your high school career.

To apply to NTHS/NHS:

  1. Determine you have met the qualifications.

  1. Fill out the NTHS/NHS Application no later than 11:59 pm on Monday, August 1st, 2025.

Once we receive your information form and have processed it, you may receive an invitation to complete the NHS/NTHS admission essay. More information will be shared with you at that time about this process.
